Oscar Garcia - Manager
« on: January 05, 2018, 03:56:37 AM »
44 year old  Òscar Garcia the former Barca player and coaching student to Johan Cruyff  will be our new coach for the remainder of the 17/18 season. I know many don’t agree with a coaching change now but his appointment was made so he can build a team ready for next seasons demands including CL play offs .
His appointment was recommended by Ernesto  Valverde . Our club has done best when we have adopted the Spanish model. Here’s hoping we enjoy some good football with him like we did with the Valverde and Michel coached teams.
Oscar Garcia is an attack orientated coach. The talk is he will be bringing his own players and the roster will change.
Our club is long overdue for a decent coach on our bench and let’s hope we’ve found that in Garcia.
I expect our roster to improve also .
Brave move by Marinakis but I think he’s realised his mistake and is rectifying them. The title race is at a delicate point but I’m confident Garcia has enough talent within the current roster to get the job done.

Welcome to our club Oscar

Heard it all before far too many times to feel anything positive and say anything more than welcome and good luck. Hopefully lasts more than 6 months.

I agree with the above. Our managers last 3 months so there is no reason to get excited until we see how he performs.
Good luck indeed.

Did a google news search on him and he doesn’t seem horrible.  There is an article saying that he was one of the long odds candidates for the Barca job before Ernesto was hired.

The thing in his favour as opposed to all the other coaches we were optimistic about is that Garcia is a product of footballing schooling that is currently enjoying a golden generation.... the Spanish one ( Barcelona to be precise) which right now is one of the best in the world.
Hopefully he gels with our team and we get to see some decent football played at long last.

Sport-fm posted a video from a game when he was coaching st etienne.   They were in a 433 that pressed everywhere.

Fortounis doesn’t press. Never has and never will. He expects the team to work for HIM. Wouldn’t be surprised if his spot is on the line with Garcia at the helm.
If Garcia does implement a pressing game where would the likes of Fortounis fit ?

I have a good feeling about this one... and he has plenty of time to feel out the team and get ready for next year. However, if he has a few bad results I hope he doesn’t get sacked. You can’t tell me it’s not possible at this point. Let’s give the guy a chance.

I like this move. Good on Marinakis for being brave to pull the trigger at this point of the season. Was painful watching Lemonis football. I'm banking on Garcia bringing back exciting football for Olympiacos.

The bonus out of the Garcia signing is we will be seeing a lot more of Marina.
